Train Travel in the UAE (United Arab Emirates)

There are seven Emirate states within the United Arab Emirates but there are no train links within the UAE, although there is a new metro system that operates in Dubai.

The UAE operates no domestic flights within the UAE although there are plenty of international flights making access to all the states fairly easy.

With no trains or domestic flights, road travel is the only way to get around in the United Arab Emirates and most of the roads within the UAE are of a very high quality. But, like all countries in the world, the roads within the cities can get very busy and there is not always much road discipline. The United Arab Emirates has several bus companies serving the different states and there are particularly frequent services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and between Dubai and Sharjah.

Boat travel is limited in the UAE but there is a water taxi that operates between Deira and Dubai. In reality, the boat service is more for enjoyment than a practical mode of transport.

If you do not want to rent a car in Dubai, travel by bus or boat, then there are always plenty of taxi drivers waiting to take your money. Confirm the price before you travel, secure your seatbelt, and leave it to the driver to get you there safely. The chances are he will!
