Dubai Metro System
Guide to the Dubai Metro System
Dubai Metro system was inaugurated on the 9th of September 2009, and is currently the most advanced urban railway system in the world. It is also the first of its kind in any of the Gulf States and currently there are two lines in the system, the Red and the Green Line. The whole Metro system is over 70 kilometres long, with the Red Line being 52.1 kilometres and the Green Line being 22.4 kilometres long. There are over 40 stations in operation, with a number of them being underground.
The Red Line operates between Jebel Ali and Rashidiya via the American University of Dubai. The Green Line on the other hand operates between the Al Ittihad Square and the
Rashidiya bus terminus via the Deira City and the Dubai International Airport. There are currently plans to extend the green line to the Burjuman and Wafi shopping centres, Bur Dubai and Deira city centres. There will be two interchanges, one at Burjuman and the other at Al Ittihad Square
All of the underground stations are located in the city centre and the Red Line underground stations all lie within the intersection of the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed road and the Sheikh Rashid road to the intersection of Abu Bakr Al Siddique and the Salahuddin roads. The green line’s underground stations all lie between the Oud Metha Road and the Garhoud Road.
