
5 Tips for Western People Visiting or Living in Dubai
A visit to Dubai is highly appealing to a wide variety of people. This is due to the soaring temperatures, the exotic beaches, the rapidly expanding commercial empire and, arguably most attractively, the fact that you can earn as much money as you like TAX
FREE. Life in Dubai however is not a complete breeze. The majority of people living in Dubai are strict muslims, and the way that they country is governed reflects this. Muslim’s expectation on how people should behave are really quite different to those of the western world. Below are some tips for westerners to help them stay out of trouble in Dubai.
No affection in Public
As a general rule of thumb, do not show any affection in public. You may well get away with holding hands in some areas, but kissing, hugging and heavy petting should ALWAYS be avoided.
Drink only in licensed areas
Muslims are strict in the consumption of alcohol. As such, only drink alcohol in licensed areas. Always double check before you begin to consume.
Avoid revealing clothing
Do not wear any clothing which reveals excess skin, especially areas of the body which may be deemed offensive. You will be ok to wear bikinis on the beach, but otherwise avoid them.
Do not take pictures of Arab women
Unless you have permission, do not take pictures of Arab women.
Do not raise your middle finger
Raising your middle finger is considered a highly offensive gesture and could result in you losing it.
